Bee County was founded December 8, 1857 by an act of the Texas Legislature. It is named for Barnard E. Bee, Sr., a secretary of state of the Republic of Texas. The county seat is Beeville. Most of the county came from San Patricio County, but also included portions of Refugio, Goliad, Karnes and Live Oak Counties.
