You got up on the wrong side of the bed. You’ve heard that, haven’t you? What does it mean? If you get up on the right side of the bed is it the right side of the bed? What about the left side? Is that the wrong side? I always figured the right side was the right side and the left side was the left side. So where is the wrong side?
Let’s look at this:
There is a left and right side of the bed. There is a head and foot of the bed. There is under the bed and on top of the bed.
On top of the bed would be the normal place to sleep. I don’t think that would be wrong. Normal is right, right?
Under the bed could be wrong. I don’t know of anyone that sleeps under the bed. That’s where all the monsters hang out. We all know that, right? Wrong? Um … yeah.
I find it hard to get up on the head of the bed. There is that headboard thing in the way. I suppose one might climb over it. Would that be wrong?Might be dangerous. You could fall and hurt yourself.
The foot of the bed would be easier to get out of … unless there is a footboard there. Even then, the footboard is usually lower than the headboard. But is it wrong to get up on the foot of the bed?
Well, I don’t know. But at least we have examined the bed and it seems to be all in one piece. Maybe we should just turn the covers back and climb in. We can see what side we get up on later.
Oh! You were expecting a bedtime story? Ok. Once upon a time …
