Helpful Tips:

Watch your weight when traveling.
  • Eat a good meal AT HOME before you head for the airport.
  • Pack some healthy snacks to munch on your trip.
  • Bring a pair of older running shoes to use at the hotel gym or other places.
  • Take advantage of fun activities on your trip. Even a walk in the park is better than sitting in front of a TV in your room.
  • Restaurant portions are huge! Eat half, or less, and take the rest with you for later.
Enjoy your trip and remember, you don’t have to gain weight while traveling.

Earth Day

on April 22 each year

We all live on planet Earth and depend on it for food, air and all the things we need and want. As such, the health of this planet is, or should be, important to us. Earth Day helps remind us that our environment is important. On this day, events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

Earth Day is observed on April 22 each year. The United Nations adopted a resolution for an International Mother Earth Day and set the April date in 2009. Earth Day is coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 192 countries every year.

John McConnell pioneered the name and concept of Earth Day in 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco. He proposed March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. The day was later sanctioned in a Proclamation at the United Nations.

A month later a separate Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in. It was first held on April 22, 1970. While this April 22 Earth Day was focused on the United States, an organization launched by Denis Hayes, who was the original national coordinator in 1970, took it international in 1990 and organized events in 141 nations.
